About us

Lilydale Swimming Club (LSC) was first formed in 1903, when the Lilydale Community banded together to build the first public baths in the area. In 1904, the Club became registered with Swimming Victoria, and as such, is the second oldest swimming Club in Victoria. Over this time the Club has achieved success at State, National and even Olympic level. For all its success, the Club has remained a family focused Club, where both children and parents can experience all there is to enjoy about the sport of Swimming.
These days the Club trains and operates out of Kilsyth Centenary Pool affectionately known as “The Dome”. The Club is run by a volunteer committee and employs professional Coaches to train its swimmers.

Professional Coaching

Our Head Coach has attained her bronze level in coaching and all of our coaching staff regularly attend training sessions and staff meetings to make sure their content is up to date and relevant. LSC uses many modern training techniques such as underwater cameras and slow motion filming to best understand each swimmer’s style. Our Head Coach and assistant coach also ensure our swimmers are provided with age-appropriate dryland training.

Team atmosphere

LSC is run by a committee of families who have their own childrens’ best interests at heart, ensuring the club is run for the benefit of the swimmers. The club has a great “family feel” to it. The committee is always looking for new parents to join and would love to have the benefit of your input to the team.

Swimming activities

LSC has facilitated many Encouragement Meets for surrounding clubs, providing support and encouragement for new swimmers. These meets are important to encourage our budding swimmers in this fantastic sport.

Social activities

LSC aims to make long lasting connections between the swimmers, offering them different ways to socialise outside of the aquatic environment. Activities we have conducted in the past include Go Karting, Saturday Breakfasts, Bowling, Family Dinners, Laser Strike, Indoor Trampolining, Clip n Climb and our annual Christmas Party. We also hold our annual Presentation Night around July each year.

Encouraging All Swimmers

As swimmers develop, they may find that pool racing is not their main focus: as a result LSC is lucky enough to train triathletes, pent-athletes and open water swimmers. All swimmers are encouraged to try different events to make sure they enjoy every aspect of the sport.

Education

Swimmers are provided with education about:
  • Nutrition
  • Competition
  • Goal setting
  • Training standard and ethics
  • Stroke Development/Workshops
  • Race Skills
  • Mindfulness

What Makes Lilydale Different?

We are more than a swimming club: we strive to make sure each swimmer has the chance to achieve their goals whilst growing and learning as a member of the Club. We aim to ensure each swimmer feels comfortable and confident in every training session, and fully enjoys their swimming experience!

Coaching Team And Philosophy

“I aim to give my swimmers every possible strategy and opportunity to unlock their talents. I wish for every athlete to achieve their goals, no matter what they may be, no matter what age. Swimming is an individual sport, but you must have a good team for the individual to succeed, and it is the friendships you make that you will remember and forever cherish. Swimming is so much more than a sport. It’s all about doing your best and being proud of your efforts – there is nothing more to it.” (Duana Mcleod – Head Coach)

Competitions and Events

The first time a swimmer competes can be quite daunting, so LSC makes sure swimmers enter appropriate Swimming Meets and will always provide a coach at all targeted meets. Swimmers are also advised on race strategy and will have a tailored plan when entering all Qualifying Meets.
