Lilydale Swimming Club (LSC) was first formed in 1903, when the Lilydale Community banded together to build the first public baths in the area. In 1904, the Club became registered with Swimming Victoria, and as such, is the second oldest swimming Club in Victoria. Over this time the Club has achieved success at State, National and even Olympic level. For all its success, the Club has remained a family focused Club, where both children and parents can experience all there is to enjoy about the sport of Swimming.
The Club trained and operated out of Kilsyth Centenary Pool affectionately known as “The Dome”. Since it’s closure it is now training out of Lilydale Outdoor pool, Yarra Centre and Knox Leisureworks.
The Club is run by a volunteer committee and employs professional Coaches to train its swimmers.
Professional Coaching
Our head coach has attained her bronze level in coaching, and is always striving to improve her knowledge and qualifications. LSC uses visual aids as well as starters, pace clocks and swim bridges to help get the most out of each individual athlete.
Team atmosphere
LSC is run by a committee of families who have their own children’s best interest at heart ensuring that the club is run for the benefit of the swimmers. The club has a great “family feel” to it, with both senior and junior athletes training together-proving that age is just a number, and that swimming is a life-long sport.
Social activities
The club aims to make long lasting connections between the swimmers, offering them different ways to connect outside of the aquatic environment. Some of the examples have been movie afternoons, family dinners, laser strike, our annual Christmas in July, as well as our presentation night and Christmas party.
Competitions
LSC has facilitated many Encouragement Meets for surrounding clubs and swim schools, providing a supportive environment for new swimmers. They are here to help the next generation of swimmers.
When it comes to competitions, our coach will always make sure that appropriate meets are targeted, and a coach will be regularly attending those meets. An individual plan and race strategy is also given to those that wish to compete, all based on their goals and talents. Dryland sessions are also available to all club members to facilitate with these goals.
What Makes Lilydale Different?
We are more than a swimming club: we strive to make sure each swimmer has the chance to achieve their goals whilst growing and learning as a member of the Club. We aim to ensure each swimmer feels comfortable and confident in every training session, and fully enjoys their swimming experience!
SUPPORTING EVERYBODY
We also understand that not every child is interested in competing, which is why have our fitness squads which allows young and senior athletes the ability to come to any amount of sessions.
We also have a variety of open water swimmers, with bootcamps and more programs to come! To encourage our swimmers, we also have our clubnights, which are held in training sessions once per month, and it allows our club to race each other for points and PB’s in a controlled, comfortable environment.
